MATTHEW S. MONTOYA

~Hi, I’m Matt
2 AM coder, fabulous weirdo, 2nd-year CS undergrad geeking out at the U.S.-Mexico border. I’m proficient in Java, with basic knowledge in Python, C, & JavaScript. I’m the involved with the ACM-W chapter at the University of Texas at El Paso, where I am also the project lead for the university's Google igniteCS Mentorship Program. Having recently returned from an internship in Silicon Valley, my proudest accomplishment has been the opportunity to contribute to the research & development of AI by studying the effects of neural networks on neuromorphics at Stanford University.
&&
Prior to my CS journey, I worked as a stock associate at Abercrombie & Fitch and volunteered in the ER at the John C. Lincoln hospital in Phoenix, Arizona. On my free time, you'll find me code-fighting friends, playing tennis at the park, or communicating with beautiful people like yourself. Have a look around! Inquire within.
I'm always {0000 0001} click away~

...AND MY JOURNEY
MY PORTFOLIO. FOR YOUR EYES ONLY.

CompTIA A+ Certified Technician
Sophomore year of high school. Going through the ropes of high school, you never know where you'll end up. But you'll never forget where your journey began.
THE JOURNEY BEGINS
2012
Student Worker Assisting Technology
From building computer labs to installing network cabling, I was one out of a team of seven high school seniors, forever thankful for the opportunity to have my first job be in tech.
Ysleta ISD
2013 - 2014
Stockroom Associate
My first job in college. My first job outside of tech. It's here, at the edge of my comfort zone, where I made some of the best memories, learned some of life's greatest lessons, and pursued my inner passion for fashion.
Abercrombie & Fitch
2014 - 2017
Technology & Information Systems Intern
New knowledge with a new team of collegiate interns. From system imaging to iDevice deployment, it was very much deja vu from Ysleta ISD. But it was important to learn that true 'experience' could only come from failure.
El Paso ISD
May - August 2016
Student Mentor | Program Lead
From designing & structuring educational content to working with different programming & scripting languages, igniteCS has allowed me to take my experience in education and knowledge in computer science to mentor my community's K-12 students in CS-based concepts.
Google igniteCS
2016 - Present
Research Fellow
Studying the effects of a newly developed neural network translation method, this experience taught me more about machine learning, neuromorphic computing, and decision making under uncertainty, reigniting my passion for research and a career in Silicon Valley.
Stanford Intelligent Systems Laboratory
June - August 2017
